INDIAN FINE ARTS ACADEMY of SAN DIEGO's 12th ANNUAL MUSIC AND DANCE FESTIVAL
Episodes From ‘Jaya Jaya Devi’
pArvati lAsyam
bharata muni presents a musical drama with the apsaras (celestial dancers) for s’iva and pArvati, describing the churning of the milk-ocean. Upon witnessing the dance, s’iva suggests that the dance may be enhanced with Ananda tANDavam. He goes on to illustrate this (what turns out to be the beginnings of a tillana). Bharata muni says that such masculine dancing is unsuitable for the apsaras. s’iva then requests pArvati to demonstrate of how tANDavan may be portrayed in a feminine way (lAsyam).
