After receiving a boon from Lord Brahma that no man could kill him, the demon king, mahiSan defeats the dEvas and becomes indiran. Due to his ill treatment, the dEvas seek the Gods for a solution. The Gods unfortunately are unable to help the dEvas due to the boon, so the dEvAs use their energy to create the ten-armed durgA. mahiSan sees durgA and is immediately taken by her beauty and ask her to marry him. durgA tells him she is born to vanquish him and a battle ensues. durgA triumphs and kills the demon.
